Ligonier – The Ligonier City Council approved the rezoning of approximately 52 acres of land in the Coussens Planned Development, a large section of undeveloped property adjacent to US Highway 33 just south of US Highway 6.

The ordinance changing allowed land use split over 100 acres into three categories for development: Industrial, Commercial/Retail, and Residential/Multi-Family. The move follows a recent review of possible sites across Noble County for industrial development by several stakeholders from across Noble County. The Strategic Site Inventory (SSI) project is an initiative designed by increase community competitiveness for quality economic development projects. it was launched in December 2018, funded by Duke Energy, made possible through a partnership between Indiana Economic Development Corportion, Indiana Power Partnership, and Leotta Location and Design.

When Noble County’s town and city leaders and county officials came together to review sites identified by the SSI initiative, they quickly realized most sites were not very likely to be developed due to the costs and challenges of extending necessary infrastructure outside town or city limits. Ligonier’s decision to take the next step to rezone the Coussens Planned Development is a major move to add more acreage to promote to site selectors for industrial growth.
